People rave about this but I thought it was simply enjoyable. Please note this is now the entire audio of this book. The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its very best. In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin. So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near feral orphan in a crime riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. Martin to Robert Jordan, to create a thrilling and intricately spun story that will leave you breathless. In The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss brings together elements from all the great fantasy writers, from George R.

"Even more action packed and entertaining than the first book." ( The Nerd Book Review) Five starred this one right out of the gate." ( Superstardrifter) "Masterful and constantly entertaining." ( ) Along the way, Fi and Zeke discover they, too, have strengths of their own - though they come at a cost neither may wish to bear. On the run from an ancient evil and his army of terrors straight out of myths from around the world, Fi and Zeke aid Peter in his globe-trotting quest to seek out the remaining Firstborn, uncover the enemy's plans, and gather the warriors of old for what may become the final battle in the world's oldest war. "What a sequel should be - bigger stakes, bloodier action, and even more mythological madness." ( Fantasy Book Critic) Paternus: Wrath of Gods is the highly anticipated follow-up to Dyrk Ashton's critically acclaimed, Amazon number-one best-selling novel Paternus: Rise of Gods and the second book in the Paternus Trilogy. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines and Eleanor, Nick's formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should - and should not - marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. Crazy Rich Asians is the outrageously funny debut novel about three super-rich, pedigreed Chinese families and the gossip, backbiting, and scheming that occurs when the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia brings home his ABC (American-born Chinese) girlfriend to the wedding of the season. Mini Review: I really enjoyed this entry in the Maisie Dobbs series. *** this post contains affiliate links *** My copy came from: I borrowed the hardback from my local library. Britain is approaching its gravest hour - and Maisie could be nearing a crossroads of her own. They know only that her name is Anna.Īs Maisie’s search for the killer escalates, the country braces for what is to come. The little girl billeted at Maisie’s home in Kent does not, or cannot, speak, and the authorities do not know who the child belongs to or who might have put her on the “Operation Pied Piper” evacuee train. And as Maisie delves deeper into the killings of the dispossessed from the “last war,” a new kind of refugee - an evacuee from London - appears in Maisie’s life. In a London shadowed by barrage balloons, bomb shelters and the threat of invasion, within days another former Belgian refugee is found murdered. Francesca Thomas has an urgent assignment for Maisie: to find the killer of a man who escaped occupied Belgium as a boy, some twenty-three years earlier during the Great War. At the moment Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain broadcasts to the nation Britain’s declaration of war with Germany, a senior Secret Service agent breaks into Maisie Dobbs’ flat to await her return. Official Synopsis from Goodreads: Sunday September 3rd 1939. In This Grave Hour by Jacqueline Winspear (Maisie Dobbs #13) How much do I talk about? How much can I, as a white woman, talk about authentically? I feel more comfortable writing reviews of books that feature Latinx characters because, while I am not Latinx, Latinx culture IS integral to life in Southern California, where I grew up and live, and where I spend five days a week immersed in (and always working to learn more about) a population of students that is almost 100% Latinx. Yes, this is a book about a father fixing his daughter's hair, but I know it's also so much more - culturally, socially, politically. And honestly, I felt really challenged when writing this review. As a white woman, I don't know what it means or what the challenges and joys are of having Black hair. Zuri's determination and disappointment are palpable, as is the love that exists between Zuri and her Daddy have and the family as a whole. Hair Love the book, illustrated by Vashti Harrison, best known for her Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History books, brings Zuri and her hair to life in a style that feels akin to animation. Happily, Hair Love, the film, has been optioned by Sony and will be coming to screens later this year. Cherry's Hair Love began life as a Kickstarter campaign to bring it to life as an animated short. Each book is wrapped in acid-free paper, within a rigid bio-degradable cardboard mailer and a waterproof fully-recyclable mailing envelope. Safe & Sustainable Packaging: All of our books are shipped in eco-friendly packaging. Further Information: We are always happy to provide additional images or detail on request. About This Book: A selection of ghost stories, including "The Bewilderment of Snake McKoy" by Nancy Spain, "The Restless Rest- House" by Jonathan Curling, "Autumn Cricket" by Lord Dunsany, "One Grave Too Few" by Cynthia Asquith, "The Chelsea Cat" by C.H.B. Despite these defects, this is a very good and sound reading copy. There is a closed tear to the rear cover, and also a neatly repaired closed tear to the front. The covers are clean and bright, with a price sticker to front cover. His own desires still are the most important thing to him. In the end, he tells the truth only because he is afraid it will be found out anyway. This shows that Godfrey is unchanged - he wants to do the right things, but not badly enough to risk his happiness. Godfrey's life with Nancy sets him on a better path, but there is no true test of his character except his failure to own Eppie as his daughter. She seems to be saying that there are times when wrong can be made to seem almost right, but that such conditions provide a weak base for a life. Godfrey knows that, and Eliot tries to make sure that the reader does too. Such "excuses" are an insufficient defense. Yet these are only the ultimate complication of Godfrey's situation. The early marriage was not really his fault he has good intentions about caring for Eppie he really wants to lead a better life. But he does not have the courage to take responsibility for his acts nor to give up his desires when they conflict with duty.Įliot is careful to make excuses for Godfrey. He has no desire to harm anyone he is pained when he does so. Godfrey's character is summed up by Eliot near the beginning of the novel as "irresolution and moral cowardice," a state in which he continues until almost the end. Beck wants nothing more than to break my wings, pin me to a board and watch me writhe. He wants to see me broken. He calls me Butterfly, but it's not a pet name, it's a threat. He draws me in, and strips me of every defense I have. But no one cares about what I want.Sebastian Beckett is the worst of them. I didn't want to be part of this billionaire-boys-club. There used to be five, but one of them died, leaving a fifth position that I now fill. They rule my new town, my school, and with more money than God, there's very little out of their reach.Four gorgeous, perfect, scary boys. Includes Broken Wings, Broken Trust, Broken Legacy, and a BONUS never before seen epilogue. This is the complete set of the top 10 Amazon best selling Dark Legacy series. The two mountain ranges of the Napa Valley were created during the formation of the San Andreas fault. Due to our unique geographic position between the cold Pacific Ocean and the often hot Central Valley, a wide variety of climatic conditions exist within this small, contiguous area that are perfectly suited to producing a great variety of world-class wine grapes. Over the course of 150 million years, the slow grinding of tectonic plates and robust volcanic activity have created the topography of the Napa Valley we know today. Like the rest of California, Napa Valley has had a very active and eventful geologic history.
